[Unit Project2]My memorable Neapolitan

Neapolitan is the food which it's not too much to say all Japanese know. Do you know where Neapolitan was born in? Judging from its name, it was born in Naples of Italy. However that's not right. To be surprised, it was born in Yokohama of Japan in a few years after WW2. It was served at hotel in Yokohama for the first time. Neapolitan means spaghetti like Naples. There isn't Neapolitan in Naples. In addition, why the chef of hotel came to mind was to see food of American army.

This recipe was made by my father when I was junior high school student. I love this Neapolitan recipe. Before I went to club activities, I often ate this Neapolitan. So, this is nostalgic taste. I want you to eat this recipe.

you will need:

  • frying pan (for stir frying)
  • pair of cooking chopstick
  • pot (for boiling pasta)
  • plate
  • measuring spoon
  • knife (for cutting vegetable and sausage)
  • cutting board (for cutting vegetable and sausage)

Ingredients

This recipe yields 1 serving

  • 1L water
  • 10g salt(1% of volume of the water)
  • 100g pasta
  • 1/4 onions
  • 2 sausages
  • 1 green peppers
  • 1 tablespoon of oil
  • 3 tablespoons of ketchup
  • 10g batter
  • 8g granular consomme

1. First, slice the 1/4 onions, the 1 green peppers and cut the 2 sausages into 1cm round slices with the knife on   the cutting board.

2. Next, add the 1L of water into the pot and boil it.

3. While boiling the water, add the oil into the frying pan. Then add the cut onions, the green peppers, the sausages from step1 into the frying pan and stir fry it with the chopstick.

4. When the water boiled, add the 10g salt and the 100g pasta and boil it following the time when is written on the package of the pasta and then boil it for additional 2 minutes. (Boiling for additional 2 minutes will make your Neapolitan close to the Neapolitan of the cafe. Depending on your preference, adjust boiling time.)

5. When the onions become soft, add the 3 tbsp of ketchup into the frying pan. Then burn off the water from it.

6. After finishing to boil the pasta, move the pasta and the 3tbsp of water which used to boil the pasta to the frying pan. Then add the 10g batter and 8g granular consomme and mix it with the cooking chopstick.

7. After mixing, stir fry what are in the frying pan for 3 minutes.

8. Finally, put what was cooked on the plate.

I think it's good to add honey or change from sausages to bacon. In Japanese cafes, they boiled pastas and mix pasta and oil well. After that, they put it into the fridge the day before. When they got ordered next day, they stir fry the pasta and ingredients. Some people said "This is real Neapolitan. The Neapolitan which isn't done this process is not real Neapolitan!" In my opinion, either is fine. You should cook which one you like.

I hope you enjoy your Neapolitan.
